Hugh Chilton

I am an early career researcher exploring the complex and changing relationship between religion and national life in the turbulent post-war Anglophone world.

In 2015 I was awarded a PhD in history from the University of Sydney, for a thesis entitled 'Evangelicals and the End of Christian Australia: nation and religion in the public square, 1959-1979' considered the response of a diverse cast of Christian leaders to the rapid and surprising collapse of British, White and Christian understandings of what it meant to be Australian.

I also serve as a Research Fellow at The Scots College, Sydney, engaged in the development of research-led practice among staff and the encouragement of intellectual vocations for students.
